Mid-Autumn Celebration at PinkRoom!

Mid-autumn festival is a Chinese traditional festive that has be been around for hundreds of years. A tradition passed down from ancestors, Chinese people view the moon together over a cup of tea and delicious mooncakes, while young ones gather to play with their lit paper lanterns.

We had a little gathering at PinkRoom on Monday, full fledged party with lanterns, pomelo, mooncakes and piglet baskets! So many of our students joined us for the party and there were exchanges of information about mid-autumn festival we didn't know before.

One of our older students told us the significance of Pomelo. Pomelo is a lucky fruit and if you cut/peel it a certain way similar to killing the pomelo (in Chinese "Sha You"), it will ward of evil spirits and negative energy.

There were also secret-techniques (haha not nail technique) sharing going around because all of us ,when we were young, had our own way to fix a sturdy wax candle and light up a paper lantern without it going up in flames.
PS: Many of us preferred the paper lanterns to those battery-operated lanterns that sound quite similar to a broken music player.

The reason why we decided to hold such a detailed and elaborated party instead of the normal eat-mooncake party was because of our Japanese trainer, Azusa! Its her 1st time experiencing Mid-autumn festival and she was really curious about it. While googling answers to her questions, the rest of the staff also learnt a lot about the festival, Azusa had a fun time with the lanterns!

Culture exchange! Azusa told us in Japan, Macdonalds will have a special menu called "Moonburger" and it reminds her of this moon-viewing festival.

And of cause, its a PinkRoom's gathering and it definitely involved topics revolving around nails. There were students who were suffering from achy arms which is an occupational hazard and our Principal Rachel shared tips on how to effectively massage points of the arm and back to relieve symptoms. Where else can we find such a caring Principal? She even helps PinkRoom's staffs with their back and neck aches!

Students also complimented Joe's face portrait painting on a nail tip because it was so realistic. Since we mentioned Joe, how can we forget his very debatable AGE. *winks* There should be a session where students can gather around and spill the tea on his many stories and different details surrounding his age.

Sessions like this are so much fun, we (staff at PinkRoom) really just want to organise as many as possible. Especially when students share their reason of choosing PinkRoom, it really makes us so proud of our job at PinkRoom. We are extremely grateful for the many delicious mooncakes the students so kindly gave us! The PinkRoom Team will continue to beat office-blues and work towards providing students a positive-filled atmosphere of fun and laughter during their time at PinkRoom.
