What do you do when polishing a bigger nail surface, like the big toenail? Here’s what I learnt from my course:

1. Divide the nail into two sections. Starting with the left section, put a bead of polish in the middle and push it up to the base of the nail, then slide it down to the tip.

2. Go back to the middle again and sweep your brush in a curving motion to round the corner at the base. Then, drag it down to the tip of the nail.

3. Go back to the middle again and sweep your brush down the right.

4. Slide the brush down the middle of the painted section to even out the polish.

5. Work on the right section now by placing a bead in the center of the section. Push it upwards to cover the base and sweep it back down to the tip.

6. Go back to the middle and sweep the brush in a curving motion to round the corner. Bring it back down towards the tip.

7. Repeat for the other side.

8. Even out the polish in the right section by sweeping the brush down the middle.

9. Almost done! Even out the two sections by sweeping the brush down the centre.

10. Finally, seal the free edge.

Tip: Speed is essential if you want an even layer of polish! Taking too long will give the polish on the nail time to dry before you’re done covering the nail. That will leave you with streaky, uneven polish. Yikes! Also, apply with a light hand; too much pressure can result in streaky polish as well. If you have other tips or a different method of applying polish, do share!
