PinkRoom@Nailympics Asia 2012, Seoul Korea
Weee~~ It was a super happy trip to the Nailympics Asia 2012 for the PinkRoom team as everyone who competed won a prize!! This is the FIRST Nailympics International Nail Competition in ASIA.
It was most student's first attempt competing in those category overseas; not to mention having to compete against so many competitors from Japan, Korea, Russia, Hong Kong, Italy and Ukraine. There were like 200 competitors for just some categories alone.

Our journey started early in the morning with every one looking like pandas as most of us hardly slept the night before. Probably all of us were busy packing our luggage and stressing if we have packed all our tools that we need for the competition

Master Educator Joe - Winner of Winners
Following Joe's win at the Nailympics 2011 in USA, our Master Educator JOE CHUA once again brought pride to Singapore, The PinkRoom Int'l Nail Academy and himself. Joe won 5 medals at the Nailympics Competition USA 2012 in Long Beach, California.
The competition was held in June 2012 in the USA with competitors hailing from all over the world.
For the unaware, Nailympics International Nail Competition is one of the largest nail competition in the industry. The first Nailympics Competition is traced way back to 2001 in USA. In the past decade, Nailympics has organised competitions in other countries such as Italy and London.
Professional nail technicians from different countries gathered to compete for the prestigious Winner of Winners award.
To qualify for Winners of Winners award, one must compete in at least 4 of the 6 hands on competition. Winners will be determined on Top 4 scores of the 6 competitions only. Ultimately, among ALL the competitors, there will only be ONE Winner of Winners for each Division. Which means that the competitor needs to win in a category in other to get the highest marks to attain the Winner of Winners award.
French nail extensions may seem to the most basic of nail extensions but looks are deceiving. In International Professional Nail Competitions such as the Nailympics, the French nail extensions are the ones that will truly put one's skills to the test. Competitors are judged on the shape of the nail extensions, the smile line, length, etc.
These details may be oblivious to the untrained eye but any imperfections will reveal themselves in front of the experienced judges. Even "new" students of PinkRoom will not be able to see the flaws until they have attended more lessons and taught what to look out for and understand the desirable nail shape to achieve in competitions.
Our dear Shi-fu (Master) Joe competed in the Division 3 (Masters), a category for Masters, in other words the highest level category where the competitors are all winners! In Nailympics, competitors are categorized into Division 1, 2 and 3. Division 1 (Novice) is for students and professionals who have not participated in any national or international competitions. Division 2 (Veterans) is for second and third prize winners in national/international competitions or first prize winner in Division 1. Division 3 is for first prize winner of national/ internationally-recognized competitions and competitors who are crowned the winner of winners for Division 2.
Now you can see how many "barriers" one must cross to compete in Division 3!
And from there compete against professionals of the same calibre.
The standards were very high since he has to compete against these winners and also because its one of the biggest nail competition in the world.
The Nailympics had been recognized by many as the top contest industry so one can imagine the fierce competition and strict judging! The ranking of top nail competitors in the world are based on points awarded based on their achievements in recognized competitions. The Nailympics is one of them! As such, winners from USA, Korea and other countries would partake in the Nailympics to vie for the top prize and also to boost their world ranking.

Joe competed in 4 categories & won top prizes for ALL 4 categories, crowding him the
Winner of Winners
for Division 3 for the MASTERS!!!

Acrylic French Sculpture Division 3
Tip Overlay Division 3
2nd Place

Gel Open Division 3
Stiletto Nailart Division 3
So proud to see his name up there! Joe's the pride of PinkRoom!
It made every one in PinkRoom so happy!! & of course, all of the PRINAgals are so proud that he is our Master Shi-fu~!

Some snapshots of the lovely Pine Ave, Long Beach where the competition was held. Another beautiful memory and unforgettable experience for Joe and Rachel!
It would most likely be a surprise for non-PRINA students that right here in Singapore, we have top nail talents such as Joe who is able to fight on par in world-class competitions and emerge victorious.
It is a blessing for all PRINA students who are able to receive his tutelage! The knowledge and techniques they have acquired from their PinkRoom lessons can arm them well enough to be labelled a professional!

Nail Competition @ Seoul, Korea NOV 2011
The trip to Seoul, Korea with Pink Room was an eye opener for all of us! It is a once in a lifetime experience that every Pink Room student should go through~!! After the Hong Kong School Trip earlier in November 2011, the school had another trip to Korea at the end of the same month.
Like mentioned in previous competition blogs, the excitement and anxiety is different from what you experience when you sit for a Pink Room Examination, as the expectations and requirements are different!! It's practice, practice and more practice!! Corrections and important pointers and training with our Principal Rachel Tang, and Master Educator Joe Chua~

The Competition started very early in the morning for the higher Divisions. It wasn't as scary then as not many people were there yet. More and more competitors started to fill the hall soon after... I had not seen so many people competing at the same time before! It was much much more people than the Competitions in Singapore, Malaysia and even Hong Kong!
We started to panic as more competitors would also mean that the chance of winning is slimmer! Our Principal Rachel, and Master Educator Joe gave us encouragements~ and assured us to have faith in ourselves!
This year, we were thankful for our Master Educator Joe to be there to "take care" of us, else we would be lost! He helped to make sure that our Models reached on time as some of us had to compete in two categories, and would be uncontactable.

Here are photos taken during the Competition!!
We were lucky to have Master Educator Joe who took the trouble to take pictures for us during the Competition~ Principal Rachel was busy judging the Higher Division Competitions.

We had the chance to visit the Beauty Expo and take a look at the competitors preparing for the Mix Media Category. It was interesting as there were many booths with Make-up, Hair and Nail products that were not available in Singapore.
Take a peek at our students' Competition work!! This is a reward for months of hardwork!!
~~~~~ waiting waiting waiting for our results ~~~~~
Super proud of PinkRoom as everyone won a Prize for EVERY category that we took part in! All the hard work we've put in finally had rewards!
It wasn't an easy win for all of us since there were many International competitors taking part in each category. There were 50 over people taking parts in some of the categories, and we managed to be in the top ten places!!
Here's more photos of our PinkRoom team, together with our Principal Rachel, Master Educator Joe, and Senior Educator Nicole, who also took part in the Professional Division.
As the Certificates were in Korean, we had to have the awards translated for us~
PinkRoom bagged the 우수상 수상 (Excellence Award), 예술 상 (Artistic Award) and 장려상 수상 (Encouragement Award) for the Acrylic Single Color Sculpture in the Division Two category.
We also took home the 우수상 수상 (Excellence Award) and 기술 상 (Technical Award) for the Natural Nail Care (Red), and 우수상 수상 (Excellence Award) for the Natural Nail Care (French) in the Division Two category.
Our Senior Educator Nicole won the SECOND PRIZE in Gel Design Sculpture Div 3, 우수상 수상 (Excellence Award) in the Gel French Sculpture Div 4 and 기술 상 (Technical Award) in Gel Manicure category Div 3.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OUR WINNING TEAM!
It wasn't as nerve-wrecking for some of us since we took part in the Competition in Hong Kong previously. We have learnt a lot of important points to take note and keep a lookout for, as Joe and Rachel would correct us after the Competition.
Everyone anticipated eagerly for the results to be announced. I think most of us did have much confidence winning seeing that so many people took part. And everyone knew that the Koreans were very strong!
More photos at the Award show with our Trainers, team mates and models...
It was such an enriching experience for all of us! A big big thank you to PinkRoom for helping us contact the models to arrange everything before the trip, allowing us to go for this competition with less worries!! Giving us a chance to make new friends from different countries and having the chance to practice before the actual competition.
And not forgetting to thank our Models too!! For taking time off their busy schedules to allow us to practise before the competition
